Review: I love the author’s Ghost Hunter Mystery series, but I also heard a lot about this one. It was then with pleasure that I discovered the first volume. And what to say? It is always a pleasure to find her stories!

Abby is psychic, and even a real one! She receives the people who desire a lecture, to know more about their future. She does not see everything, does not read in thoughts, but she happens to perceive certain things, that is to say from a photograph if the person is alive or deceased or whether a person to whom she speaks lies. These are very useful gifts in this type of careers. But one evening, in a blind date, she finds herself unknowingly facing a policeman who does not believe her and she explains to him what she saw of a public affair. Passing from suspect to aid, she will allow Dutch to apprehend a culprit. But it is not over, and she will find herself embarking on another matter when one of her clients finds herself killed. Under the weight of guilt, she will do everything to understand what happened, while allying once again with Dutch and of course putting herself in grave danger …

I really liked the idea, to see that although Abby can sense a lot of things, she is not omniscient. I also appreciated the fact that she tries to hide/run away when she thinks it’s too dangerous. She is a sensible woman but who puts all her soul in to help others. I loved Dutch too, who despite his roughness, tries to understand, help and learn to know our heroine. Then there is Dave and his kindness, or Cat and her freshness! Lots of very good characters and it is true that I spent a very good time with this novel.

I am now eager to read more and to find all the characters again.

Avis : J’aime beaucoup la série Ghost Hunter Mystery de l’auteure mais j’avais aussi beaucoup entendu parler de celle-ci. C’est alors avec plaisir que j’ai découvert le premier tome. Et que dire ? C’est toujours un réel plaisir de retrouver ses histoires !

Abby est psychique, et même une vraie de vrai ! Elle reçoit les personnes qui le désirent dans son cabinet où elle leur lit leur avenir. Elle ne voit pas tout, ne lit pas dans les pensées, mais elle arrive à percevoir certaines choses, à savoir à partir d’une photo si la personne est vivante ou décédée ou encore à savoir si une personne à qui elle parle lui ment. Ce sont des dons très utiles dans ce type de carrières. Mais voilà, un soir, lors d’un blind date, elle se retrouve sans le savoir face à un policier qui ne la croit pas et elle lui explique ce qu’elle a vu d’une affaire publique. Passant de suspecte à aide, elle va permettre à Dutch d’appréhender le coupable. Mais ce n’est pas fini, et elle va se retrouver embarquée dans une autre affaire quand une de ses clientes se retrouve tuée. Sous le poids de la culpabilité, elle va tout faire pour comprendre ce qu’il s’est passé, tout en s’alliant une fois de plus à Dutch et en se mettant bien sûr en grave danger…

J’ai beaucoup aimé l’idée, de voir que bien qu’Abby puisse pressentir un grand nombre de choses, elle n’est pas omnisciente. J’ai aussi apprécié le fait qu’elle se mette à l’abri et qu’elle parte chez sa sœur quand le danger se fait sentir pour éviter les retombées. C’est une femme sensée mais qui met toute son âme à pour aider les autres. J’ai beaucoup aimé Dutch aussi, qui malgré sa rudesse, essaie de comprendre, d’aider et d’apprendre à connaitre notre héroïne. Puis il y a Dave et sa gentillesse, ou Cat et sa fraicheur ! Pleins de très bons personnages et c’est vrai que j’ai passé un très bon moment avec ce roman.

Je suis impatience à présent d’en lire plus et de retrouver tous les personnages.

THAT SINKING FEELING

Kidwella Castle in northern Wales is rumored to be haunted by a deadly ghost—the Grim Widow, who allegedly drowns unsuspecting guests in the castle’s moat. Not long after M. J. and her crew arrive at the castle to film their ghost-hunting cable TV show, Ghoul Getters, two new victims are added to the Widow’s grisly roster.

Fear ripples through the castle, especially when it’s discovered that the victims may have had help into their watery graves from the land of the living. The local inspector suspects father-son serial killers, but M. J. thinks that theory is all wet. To catch the true culprit she will need to dive deep into the castle’s past and bring some long buried secrets to the surface.

Review: Ah, M. J. and her team! I am always intrigued when a new volume comes out and I often read them fast enough. I may be a little less attached to this one than the previous ones but it is still a very good novel.

Our small team is heading to Castle Kidwella where a widow is known to wreak havoc. But from the beginning, something fishy is looming and this survey may be the only that they could abandon before the end because of the danger it represents. Indeed, almost killing Heath by being sucked into the castle moat, our heroes are facing more and more questions about their career choice. Moreover, their boss Chris seems determined to get the story of the century under penalty of firing them all. And while the urge to drop everything becomes stronger, this is also accompanied by a number of deaths by drowning in the moat, Gopher offers them to make a real movie with more money than they hoped for at the key. Hard to say … especially when they realize that abandoning their posts would mean letting behind them all the poor ghosts killed by the widow, prisoners of that crazy woman. Our small team will face a new challenge that may well be more dangerous than expected, but which would deliver many souls.

The history of the castle was really interesting to follow. So many things happened and we gradually discover the truth about the former owners. I was quite curious to see how the clash of the widow would be realized, as it must be said that she isn’t an easy target. The relationship between Heath and M.J. is also changing as they realize that they have actually quite different plans for their future, especially the city they both want to stay in. However, they are very much in love with each other and they are a very nice couple together. New characters appear here, including Michael, the new Gil’s boyfriend. Well I must say that he is also much more courageous and it was nice to see him get used and be interested in our little group. I’m sure that we will have the opportunity to see him in the next novels.

The end of the novel allows us to discover the first chapter of Volume 8 and all that announces the return of Steven! I’m so impatient about all that and I feel that it’s going to be epic to attend the meeting between Steven/M.J./Heath.

Le château de Kidwella dans le nord du Pays de Galles est connu pour être hanté par le fantôme de la veuve Grim, qui aurait l’habitude de noyer les visiteurs peu méfiants dans les douves du château. Peu de temps après que M.J. et son équipe soient arrivés au château pour filmer leur fantôme pour l’émission de télévision Getters Ghoul, deux nouvelles victimes sont ajoutées au tableau macabre de la Veuve.

La peur se répercute dans le château, surtout quand ils découvrent que les victimes ont reçu l’aide de la terre des vivants. L’inspecteur local soupçonne un tueur en série de père en fils, mais M.J. pense que la théorie ne vaut pas grand-chose. Pour attraper le vrai coupable, elle aura besoin de plonger dans le passé du château et de déterrer des secrets depuis longtemps enfouis.

Avis : Ah M.J. et toute son équipe ! Je suis toujours intriguée dès qu’un nouveau tome sort et je saute très souvent dessus assez vite. J’ai peut-être un peu moins accroché à celui-ci que le précédent mais il est tout de même très bon.

Notre petite équipe se dirige au château de Kidwella, où une veuve est connue pour y faire des ravages. Mais dès le début, quelque chose de louche se profile et cette enquête pourrait bien être la seule abandonnée avant la fin vu le danger qu’elle représente. En effet, après avoir failli mourir avec Heath en se faisant aspirer dans les douves du château, nos héros se posent de plus en plus de questions sur leur choix de carrière. De plus, leur patron Chris semble décidé à obtenir le reportage du siècle sous peine de les virer tous. Et alors que l’envie de tout laisser tomber devient de plus en plus forte, cela accompagné par plusieurs morts par noyade dans les douves, Gopher leur propose de réaliser un véritable film avec plus d’argent qu’ils n’espéraient à la clé. Difficile de refuser… surtout quand ils se rendent compte qu’abandonner leur poste reviendrait à dire laisser tous les pauvres fantômes tués par la veuve, prisonniers de cette femme complètement folle. Notre petite équipe va devoir faire face à un tout nouveau challenge qui pourrait bien être plus dangereux que prévu mais qui délivrerait un grand nombre d’âmes.

L’histoire du château était vraiment intéressante à suivre. Il s’est passé tellement de choses-là et on découvre petit à petit la vérité au sujet des anciens propriétaires. J’étais assez curieuse de voir comment allait se dérouler l’affrontement de la veuve, car il faut dire qu’elle ne se laisse vraiment pas faire. La relation entre Heath et M.J. évolue aussi mais ils se rendent compte qu’ils ont des projets finalement assez différents pour leur futur, notamment la ville où ils veulent tous deux demeurer. Ils sont cependant très amoureux l’un de l’autre et ils forment un très joli couple. De nouveaux personnages apparaissent ici, notamment Michel, le nouveau petit ami de Gil. Bon il faut dire qu’il est aussi beaucoup plus courageux et c’était sympa de le voir s’accoutumer et s’intéresser à notre petit groupe. Je suis sûre que nous aurons ainsi l’occasion de le voir dans les prochains romans.

La fin du roman nous permet de découvrir le premier chapitre du tome 8 et tout cela nous annonce le retour de Steven ! Comme j’ai hâte de pouvoir le découvrir, je sens que ça va être épique d’assister aux joutes de notre trio Steven/M.J./Heath.

Synopsis: Maddie Fynn is a shy high school junior, cursed with an eerie intuitive ability: she sees a series of unique digits hovering above the foreheads of each person she encounters. Her earliest memories are marked by these numbers, but it takes her father’s premature death for Maddie and her family to realize that these mysterious digits are actually death dates, and just like birthdays, everyone has one.

Forced by her alcoholic mother to use her ability to make extra money, Maddie identifies the quickly approaching death date of one client’s young son, but because her ability only allows her to see the when and not the how, she’s unable to offer any more insight. When the boy goes missing on that exact date, law enforcement turns to Maddie.

Soon, Maddie is entangled in a homicide investigation, and more young people disappear and are later found murdered. A suspect for the investigation, a target for the murderer, and attracting the attentions of a mysterious young admirer who may be connected to it all, Maddie’s whole existence is about to be turned upside down. Can she right things before it’s too late?

Review: I’ve always loved the novels I’ve discovered by Victoria Laurie. It is true that the genre was really different, as she writes a chick-lit series with ghosts. But I was curious to see what the author could write in another genre, a paranormal YA with a thriller touch. Yes something really different.

Since her childhood, Maddie is able to see the death dates of all the people she meets or when she looks at a picture. This is a difficult gift to wear but it helps her and her mother to earn some money. Yet it is also a job that can bring many problems and the proof is with her latest client. In fact, our young heroine discovers the future death of the young son of her client and she does not believe her. Yet Maddie and her best friend are doing all they can by reminding the young woman to be careful. Unfortunately, despite their warnings, the boy is kidnapped and our girl becomes the ideal suspect. She was already considered as a witch and mocked by more than one, but now everyone thinks she is the culprit, starting with the police. When the disappearances increase and that bodies are discovered, Maddie will have to survive whatever happens to her. Trying to understand what is happening, to convince the police that she really has a gift and to avoid becoming a victim herself … Yes Maddie will have to manage a lot of things, but that’s not all because she will try to avoid abuse in schools or bad people attention.

It’s hard to see what the girl has to go through, the police does not believe in her gift and is convinced that she is the culprit. She is 16 years old but has to manage verbal attacks, accusations and even the police attention toward her best friend. I was very curious to find out who was the culprit and I confess that I did not see it coming. I was very surprised to learn about his identity at the end of history. Surprised also about the identity of Aidan, the boy for whom she has a weakness. So yes I had a great time with this novel. It was interesting to discover Maddie, to see her love for her alcoholic mother, or even the indispensable help of his uncle who loves her more than anything and who wished to take her to live with him.

In conclusion, it was a good discovery, even if it is true that I had already read something like this. I loved to monitor the investigation of these disappearances and I am curious to read more now if we have a second novel.

Quand le garçon disparaît à cette date exacte, la police se tourne vers Maddie.

Bientôt, Maddie est empêtrée dans une enquête pour homicide, et plus de jeunes disparaissent et sont retrouvés assassinés. Une suspecte pour l’enquête, une cible pour le meurtrier, et attirant les attentions d’un jeune admirateur mystérieux qui peut être connecté à tout cela, toute l’existence de Maddie est sur le point d’être renversée. Peut-elle arranger les choses avant qu’il ne soit trop tard ?

Avis : J’ai toujours beaucoup aimé les romans que j’ai pu découvrir de Victoria Laurie. Il est vrai que le genre était vraiment différent, une série de roman de fantômes un peu plus chick-lit. Mais j’étais curieuse de voir ce que l’auteure pouvait écrire dans un autre genre, du YA paranormal avec une bonne pointe de thriller. Oui quelque chose de vraiment différent.

Depuis toute petite, Maddie est capable de voir les dates de décès de toutes les personnes qu’elle rencontre ou qu’elle voit en photo. C’est un don difficile à porter mais qui aide sa mère et elle à gagner un peu d’argent. Pourtant c’est aussi un travail qui peut amener bien des problèmes et la preuve en est avec sa dernière cliente. En effet, notre jeune héroïne découvre la future mort du jeune fils de sa cliente qui ne la croit pas. Pourtant Maddie et son meilleur ami font tout ce qu’ils peuvent en rappelant la jeune femme pour lui intimer de faire attention. Hélas, malgré leurs avertissements, le garçon est enlevé et notre jeune fille devient la suspecte idéale. Déjà qu’elle était considérée comme une sorcière et moquée par plus d’un, voilà que tout le monde la pense être une meurtrière, à commencer par la police. Quand les disparitions augmentent et que les corps sont découverts, Maddie va devoir survivre à tout ce qui lui arrive. Essayer de comprendre ce qu’il se passe, convaincre la police qu’elle possède vraiment un don et éviter de devenir elle-même une victime… Oui Maddie va devoir gérer un grand nombre de choses, mais ce n’est pas tout car elle devra essayer d’éviter la maltraitance à l’école ou encore l’attention de mauvaises personnes.

C’est assez difficile de voir ce que la jeune fille doit traverser, que la police ne croit pas en son don et reste persuadée qu’elle est la coupable. Elle a 16 ans mais doit gérer les attaques verbales, les accusations, voire même l’attention de la police envers son meilleur ami. J’étais très curieuse de découvrir qui était le coupable et j’avoue que je ne l’ai pas du tout vu venir. J’ai été très surprise en apprenant son identité en fin d’histoire. Surprise aussi au sujet de l’identité d’Aidan, le garçon pour qui elle a un petit faible. Donc oui j’ai passé un très bon moment avec ce roman. C’était intéressant de découvrir Maddie, de voir son amour pour sa mère alcoolique, ou même l’aide indispensable de son oncle qui l’aime plus que tout et qui espère qu’elle viendra habiter avec lui.

Pour conclure, c’était une bonne découverte, même si c’est vrai que j’avais déjà lu quelque chose de ce genre. J’ai beaucoup aimé suivre l’enquête de ces disparitions et je suis curieuse d’en lire plus.

Ghost Hunter Mystery, Book 6

Synopsis: M.J. Holliday and her crew interrupt the frantic schedule of their reality TV show, Ghoul Getters, and hotfoot it to New Mexico, where a dreadful demon is waging tribal warfare. Same Whitefeather- M.J.’s spirit guide-urgently needs her help to stop this evil spirit from wiping out the descendants of his tribe. It doesn’t take a psychic to predict that M.J.’s going to have a devil of a time making New Mexico a demon-free zone.

Review: I was waiting for this release for a while now and what a pleasure to find MJ, Gilley and Health in this new adventure. Each volume is always very pleasant to read, I couldn’t wait to get into this one.

Our trio must go to New Mexico in less than desirable conditions. Indeed, the uncle of Health just died and MJ and Gilley accompany him as support. But things get complicated when Sam comes to notify to our ghost hunter that the culprit is a demon and nothing will stop him before he kills the whole Whitefeather’s tribe. And now that he is her spiritual guide, MJ is herself included in the possible victims. But she is determined to understand what is happening and stop the killings.

This volume is a bit different, it is much more based on Health, which is also very interesting because in the end we did not know much about him. And I must say that it is something big. The tribe is really closed and as Health and her mother are also excluded, they don’t really welcome MJ or Gilley, which is pretty sad for our heroine. Because, in fact, she is herself very excluded from the family despite she is there as the Health’s girlfriend. Fortunately Gilley is always there for her, to cheer her up. We learn a lot about the Health’s family in this volume, the legends on their past and I found it really fascinating to know everything.

It was also the first book where we really saw the MJ’s mother, it was pretty exciting to be able to know a little more about her and see that she has always kept an eye on her daughter.

Gilley is still funny, especially when he is sick. He brings a touch of freshness throughout the story. Because it must be said that there was no one like him. Health and MJ are a lovely couple and I’m really glad she found someone better than Steven. They are always so cute together.

The plot is really interesting and it is a pleasure to follow the story throughout the book. Moreover, we can read this volume very quickly. We can’t be bored a second between the survey, problems and attacks of demons. I didn’t expect the identity of the culprit at the end of the book. If you do not know this series, it’s a really fun one!
