Hi, All! Good to see you again.
It’s always a pleasure to visit. France is lovely this time of year, and to think, I didn’t even need a passport to get here.
Since Melliane has interviewed me a few times before, I thought it would be fun to do something different this timeāI’m going to interview Ciel Halligan, aura adaptor extraordinaire, for you!
For those of you who don’t know Ciel yet, she’s the main character in the urban fantasy series I write for Tor Books. She’s an “aura adaptor”āa person with a genetic quirk that enables her to change her appearance to look like someone else. She uses her ability to step into her clients’ lives and fix their problems for them. For a price, naturally. A girl has to eat.
If you’re curious about how Ciel got her start in the fixing biz, you can find out in PRE-FIX, a short story available in digital format from Amazon (Kindle) and Barnes and Noble (NOOK), as well as most places e-books are sold. Best of all? It’s cheap! (Um, in the “inexpensive” sense, not the “low class” sense. Just thought I clear that up.)
And now, on with the interview:
Linda: First off, tell me how you like working for me. It’s fun, huh?
Ciel: Me working for you? Lady, you’re just the transcriptionist. I’m the one telling the stories.
Linda: *Clears throat uncomfortably* You do realize you’re my creation, right?
Ciel: Listen, I may have started out as a figment of your fertile imagination, but I’ve evolved.
Linda: Be that as it may, I am still in the driver’s seat.
Ciel: Oh, really? Let me ask you something. Do I do everything you tell me to? Does Billy? Does Mark?
Linda: Well, no, not exactly. In fact, sometimes I think you all go off on tangents just to annoy me.
Ciel: Speaking of annoying, what’s up with that scene you threw at us in THE BIG FIX? You know which one I mean. The one that inspired a certain tweet from our editor.
Linda: You mean when she tweeted “Working on the latest in @linda_grimes’ Ciel Halligan series and I cannot even BELIEVE what I just read ⦔?
Ciel: Yeah. That one. Geez. Did you really have to go there?
Linda: Hey, don’t forget the rest of the tweet: “God I love these books. And my job.” You should be thrilled to get a reaction like that!
Ciel: It’s not our editor’s reaction I’m complaining about. It’s Billy’s. And Mark’s. Do you realize how much trouble I got into over that scene?
Linda: Well, yeah. I kind of do. Being as I’m the one who wrote it and all ā¦
Ciel: Transcribed it. Heck, you just lit the fuse and left me to straighten out the whole situation. You’re good at that, aren’t you? A regular troublemaker.
Linda: *buffs nails on shirt* I do try.
Ciel: *rolls eyes*
Linda: Hey, if nothing interesting ever happened, nobody would read the books! Besides, I don’t see why you’re complaining. I mean those are two very hot guys, and you got toā
Ciel: Shhh. For Pete’s sake, Linda. Spoilers!
Linda: Oh, yeah. Right. What I mean to say is, there are plenty of people out there who wouldn’t mind borrowing your talent and stepping into your life for few days. If you get my drift.
Ciel: Yeah? Well, sorry. My talent is nontransferable. Besides, I can fix my own problems, thank you very much. I’m a facilitatorāit’s what I do.
Linda: Fixer fix thyself, huh? Yeah, how’s that working out for you? *rubs hands together gleefully*
Ciel: *smirks* Pretty well, considering all the plot bombs you throw at me. Anyone ever tell you you’re one evil writer?
Linda: *grins innocently* Hey, who gave you a pony?
Ciel: Eeyore? Speaking of evil, that nasty littleā
Linda: Ah-ah-ah. Remember, no spoilers!
Ciel: *sighs* Well, at least I’ve managed to stay ahead of your diabolical mind so far.
Linda: Yeah? Just wait until the next book! Ciel? Ciel ⦠hey where are you going? Come back here!
Oh, well. Ciel’s always been, um, difficult to direct. I can’t think where she gets that from ā¦
Melliane, thank you again for inviting me back. It’s been loads of fun, as usual. J

Thereās only one thing Jack fears more than snakes, and that’s the possibility of his fans finding out he screams at the sight of one. Going from hero to laughing stock isnāt part of his career plan.
Seems like a simple enough job to Ciel, who doesnāt particularly like snakes, but figures she can tolerate an afternoon with them, for the right priceāwhich Jack is offering, and then some. Ciel begins to suspect Jackās phobia was phony, and that he only hired her to provide him with an alibiābut if she goes to the police, sheāll have to explain how she knows he wasnāt really on set. Up against a wall, Ciel calls on her best-friend-turned-love-interest Billy, and her not-so-ex-crush Mark, to help her set up the sting of a lifetime.

Loved this interview! It’s always so fun when we get to see authors and characters “interact”. Sparks always fly:) Definitely need to pick up the first book!
Maja (The Nocturnal Library)
Ciel is always entertaining. I may have given up because of the love triangle, but I always liked her spirit. But what’s with the cover? I’m not liking this new look. It’s UF, not contemporary romance.
