Review: I really loved the first book and I was looking forward to this new story! It must be said that the whole context that the author has chosen is fascinating!

So we find Genevieve ready for new adventures. In fact, as she tries to know exactly what she wants to do with her feelings towards Simon and to understand what she wants, our dear psychiatrist will have to face new problems. The author plunges us into the world of forced prostitution in the Italian community of a New York in the 1900s. It is a really interesting and terrible subject especially when we know that it still exists today.

In fact, while she meets with Simon, she attends the draft of a young Italian who seems to have suffered a lot of vices and that is how she meets Rosa who begs her to find one of her friends Italian too, which seems to have disappeared. Intrigued by these events, Genevieve won’t be able to prevent herself from mingling with this sordid story to understand exactly what is going on. But this story is much more complex than she thought, and the slave trade does not particularly like when someone takes a closer look at the business.

I found the story really exciting. I was waiting impatiently to find out what was going to happen. It must be said that our heroine has the chic to end up in compromising situations. This novel is a bit different from the first one but I found that the turn that the author had taken was just as well!

This is not a simple story and it is sad to see what these girls have suffered but I confess that I did not expect at all the culprit of the story. It must be said that we easily follow the hypotheses of Genevieve without ever questioning them!

A very good new novel.

Avis : J’avais vraiment adoré le premier tome et j’étais vraiment impatiente de me plonger dans une nouvelle histoire ! Il faut dire que tout le contexte que l’auteure a choisi est fascinant !

Nous retrouvons donc Genevieve en proie à de nouvelles aventures. En effet, alors qu’elle essaie de savoir exactement ce qu’elle veut faire de ses sentiments envers Simon et qu’elle essaie aussi de comprendre ce que lui désire, notre chère psychiatre va devoir faire face à de nouveaux problèmes. L’auteure nous plonge ainsi de façon originale dans l’univers de la prostitution forcée dans la communauté italienne d’un New York des années 1900. C’est un sujet vraiment intéressant et terrible surtout quand on sait que ça existe toujours de nos jours.

En effet, alors qu’elle retrouvait Simon, elle assiste au repêchage d’une jeune italienne qui semble avoir subi un grand nombre de vices et c’est ainsi qu’elle fait la rencontre de Rosa qui la supplie de retrouver une de ses amies italienne elle aussi qui semble avoir disparu. Intriguée par ces évènements, Genevieve ne va pas pouvoir s’empêcher de se mêler à cette histoire sordide pour comprendre ce qu’il se passe exactement. Mais voilà, cette histoire est bien plus complexe qu’elle ne le pensait et la traite d’esclaves n’aime pas particulièrement qu’on s’intéresse à elle.

J’ai trouvé l’histoire vraiment entrainante. J’attendais avec impatience de découvrir ce qui allait se passer. Il faut dire que notre héroïne a le chic pour se retrouver dans des situations compromettantes. Ce roman est un peu différent du premier mais j’ai trouvé que la tournure qu’avait prise l’auteure était tout aussi bien !

Ce n’est pas une histoire simple et c’est assez triste de voir ce que ces jeunes filles ont subi mais j’avoue que je ne m’attendais pas du tout au coupable de l’histoire. Il faut dire que l’on suit facilement les hypothèses de Genevieve sans jamais les remettre en doute !

Un nouveau très bon roman.

Review: I did not really know about the series but with the release of the second volume I had the chance to to discover this first novel. The idea of investigations along with Hollywood during this period was very attractive and I was curious to see what the author was going to present us.

We discover Lillian Frost a young woman who works today in a clothing store. Her rather routine life is going to be completely upset down when she learns that her ex roommate and friend is found murdered. Suspect of the murder, she will try everything to innocent her name and discover what happened to Ruby. This young woman who enjoyed by life without hesitation, abusing it, has changed somewhat since her departure. This is how Lillian will team up with Edith, a friend of hers who is trying to understand the events as well and they both will try to clear up the mystery. But while Lillian discovers Ruby’s secrets, she will put herself in danger and discovering the killer will become indispensable!

I loved the idea of the novel, it is a very interesting mix and it was a pleasure to discover Lillian. She is a very fresh and dynamic woman who, despite what Ruby has made her endure, hopes to understand the truth. The plot is not badly conducted with many secrets, arrangements, and we gradually discover the stories of each character. I confess that I had not seen the end coming, especially about the culprit. The author makes us doubt, suspecting the characters, the one after the other and it is true that this mobile was far from what I could have imagined.

As I said, this novel was a good discovery and I am curious now to find the characters for a new story!

Tout ce qu’elles ont c’est de la détermination, aidées par Bob Hope et Barbara Stanwyck, et un sens du style. Dans les affaires de spectacle, cela pourrait suffire.

Avis : Je ne connaissais pas vraiment la série mais avec la sortie du deuxième tome j’ai eu la chance de pouvoir découvrir ce roman. L’idée des enquêtes, d’Hollywood ou encore de l’époque était très attrayante et j’étais curieuse de voir ce que l’auteure allait nous présenter.

Nous découvrons ainsi Lillian Frost une jeune femme qui travaille aujourd’hui dans un magasin de vêtements. Sa vie assez routinière va être complètement bouleversée quand elle apprend que son ex colocataire et amie est retrouvée assassinée. Suspecte du meurtre, elle va tout essayer pour innocenter son nom et découvrir ce qui a bien pu arriver à Ruby. Cette jeune femme qui profitait de la vie à fond sans hésiter à en abuser à l’excès a quelque peu changé depuis son départ. C’est ainsi que Lillian va faire équipe avec Edith, une amie à elle qui essaie de comprendre aussi les évènements et elles vont toutes les deux essayer d’éclaircir le mystère. Mais alors que Lillian découvre les secrets de Ruby, elle se mettra elle-même en danger et découvrir le tueur deviendra indispensable !

J’ai beaucoup aimé l’idée du roman, c’est un mélange très intéressant et c’était un plaisir de découvrir Lillian. C’est une femme très fraiche et dynamique qui, malgré ce que Ruby lui a fait endurer, espère comprendre la vérité. L’intrigue est pas mal menée, beaucoup de secrets, d’arrangements, et on découvre petit à petit les histoires de chacun. J’avoue que je n’avais pas du tout vu venir cette fin et notamment ce coupable. L’auteure nous fait douter, suspectant les personnages les uns après les autres et c’est vrai que ce mobile était loin de ce que j’aurais pu imaginer.

Comme je le disais, ce roman a été une bonne découverte et je suis curieuse à présent de retrouver les personnages pour une nouvelle histoire !

Review: If there is a detective series that I love to follow it is Kathy Mallory. I must admit that sometimes you have to be patient as the volumes can take several years to come out but it is always a treat to embark on every new adventure.

If you know the series, you know that Kathy is not a mere policeman and she is now facing a new case that could be much more complicated than expected. Indeed, a nun disappeared as well as her nephew and while she is found dead in the mayor’s garden with other people, the boy has disappeared. Our detective is determined to find him whatever may happen, but will she be able to do so in time?

It was really interesting to see the behavior of this blind boy who manages to do a lot of things despite the conditions in which he finds himself, it’s impressive to see how he plays to try to manipulate this killer. Regarding Mallory, she threw herself into the heart on this story, manipulating everyone to achieve her ends.

I will not say more, but I can only advise you to discover the series if you like the detective stories. It was a very nice surprise but I am surprised to have spent so much time finishing this twelfth volume. I hope that we will have a new novel very soon because it was a pleasure to find all the characters once again.

Jonah Quill, aveugle depuis sa naissance, est assis dans une voiture conduite par un tueur et se demande où ils vont. Bien qu’aveugle, Jonas voit plus que la plupart des gens. Il compte sur ce secret pour lui sauver la vie.

Puis l’autre disparu.


La détective Kathy Mallory ne compte que sur elle-même pour sauver sa vie. Il lui faut un certain temps pour se rendre compte que l’affaire de personnes disparues qu’elle poursuit est intimement liée au massacre sur la pelouse du maire. Mais elle trouvera Jonah – elle espère juste que ce sera à temps.

Avis : S’il y a une série policière que j’adore suivre c’est bien Kathy Mallory. Je dois avouer qu’il faut parfois être patient comme les tomes peuvent mettre plusieurs années à sortir mais c’est toujours un régal de se lancer dans chaque nouvelle aventure. Vous voulez une bonne nouvelle ? C’est une série traduite en Français et dont les livres sont à jour et je suis persuadée que ce nouveau tome ne va pas tarder à arriver aussi !

Si vous connaissez la série, vous savez que Kathy n’est pas une policière banale et la voilà maintenant face à une nouvelle affaire qui pourrait bien être bien plus compliquée que prévue. En effet, une nonne a disparue ainsi que son neveu et est retrouvée morte dans le jardin du maire avec d’autres personnes, le jeune garçon a lui disparu. Notre détective est bien déterminée à le retrouver quoi qu’il puisse se passer, mais le pourra-t-elle à temps ?

C’était vraiment intéressant de voir le comportement de ce jeune garçon aveugle qui parvient à faire énormément de choses malgré les conditions dans lesquelles il se trouve, c’est impressionnant de voir la façon dont il joue pour essayer de manipuler ce tueur. De son côté Mallory se lance à cœur perdu dans cette histoire, en manipulant tout le monde pour arriver à ses fins.

Je ne vais pas en dire plus, mais je ne peux que vous conseiller de découvrir la série si vous aimez les policiers. C’était une très bonne surprise mais je suis étonnée d’avoir mis tant de temps à finir ce douzième tome. J’espère que nous aurons un nouveau roman très bientôt car c’était un plaisir de retrouver tous les personnages une fois de plus.

But in the end, it will be up to Charlotte, under the assumed name Sherlock Holmes, to challenge society’s expectations and match wits against an unseen mastermind.

Review: I’m always attracted to stories about Sherlock Holmes and even more when they portray strong women full of intelligence. I therefore admit that I did not wait much to get into the novel.  I was then eager to discover the ideas of the author this time!

It was not exactly the story I expected, I admit, especially in terms of Sherlock Holmes but we find very different ideas of what we usually have. We discover Charlotte, a girl ahead of her time who is determined to become someone and not the wife of a man. Yet, despite her father’s agreement declaring that if she promises to try to be a proper woman first, she could do what she wants to, nothing materializes and her parents continue to insist that she marries. To avoid this, she ruins her reputation and flees to try to live by herself, though it will not be as easy as expected. In addition, Charlotte, under the pseudonym of Sherlock Holmes, helps solve cases and the latest is quite complicated. Indeed, her sister is suspected of murdering a woman and our heroine is determined to prove that she isn’t guilty.

I liked Charlotte’s life, to see how she would get by between all that was going on in her life. It was interesting to see that in that period what would happen to her after all these events. However, I admit that I was less taken away by the Sherlock Holmes part, by the letters she writes and it was difficult for me to get into the investigation. It was only towards the end, when Charlotte is in the field that I managed to get interested some more.

So it was an interesting and different novel, and I’m curious to see what will result.
