Can you present you in a few words?

I think of myself as more of a storyteller than a writer. A weaver of fantastic tales which always include a love story. I definitely write for adults––the love scenes are often explicit and erotic.

My first two series, The Gentlemen of Scotland Yard and Phaeton Black, Paranormal Investigator are both set in late Victorian, gaslight London (1887–1890) and involve wickedly handsome, dashing detectives and the sassy, smart women who capture their hearts. The Scotland Yard detectives are a steampunk version of James Bond, whereas the Phaeton Black series has more of a paranormal, erotic twist.

All of the books are full of action, adventure. I like to populate my stories with lots of interesting, eccentric supporting characters, as well as heroines who are every bit as interesting and clever as the heroes.

How would you describe the Paranormal Investigator series? Wow, that’s kind of a hard one, since no one has figured it out, including Publishers Weekly. Here’s what they had to say about the first book in the series: “Erotic romance? Paranormal thriller? Sherlock Holmes pastiche? Steampunk adventure?”

LOL! See what I mean? And I’ve given up trying to explain Phaeton––more like surrendered. He’s probably the most unique character I have ever written. He’s bold, audacious, darkly handsome, intuitive as well as brilliantly deductive. Women either love Phaeton or they don’t get him––some are even offended by him. Phaeton is a classic, Byronic hero in every sense of the word and he will continue to be a major force no matter how many books are written in the series.

What would you most like potential readers to know about you and/or your book?

What readers of the Phaeton Black series should know is that the newest release is Mia and Exeter’s love story. In this sequel to The Moonstone and Miss Jones, a number of tiny spies (flies on the wall) are let loose in the Outremer and they locate Phaeton in…….Paris! He is being held captive by Prospero, a powerful techno-wizard from a parallel universe. Exeter sets out with two of the Nightshades, and America and Mia, to find Phaeton amidst the miles of catacombs and limestone quarry tunnels below Paris. Meanwhile, Mia is having difficulty adjusting to her new dual identity as a shapeshifter––part panther, part human.

Exeter and Mia’s story is filled with sexual tension, and there is definitely a darker edge to it. Mia has grown into a beautiful young woman who is very much attracted to her guardian, Dr. Exeter. She’s loved him since she was a child, but her feelings have shifted in disturbing new ways. As the book opens, Mia struggles with her inner wild cat, as well as her adult feelings for Exeter. At times, she becomes disturbingly sexually aggressive––is it the panther or Mia or both?

And Exeter doesn’t deal with these changes in Mia very well. He is torn between his duties as her guardian, his desire to help her gain control over the panther, and his growing physical attraction to her.

Be prepared for a very erotic love story, and a bit of adventure in The Miss Education of Dr. Exeter.

Phaeton and America, along with the rest of the Gentlemen Shades will return in the next installment of the story, which brings Prospero and Gaspar more fully into the overarching plotline.

So Pheaton, where’d he come from? Not sure, exactly. I originally thought of him as a delicious blend of Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and Robert Downy Jr’s Sherlock Holmes. High adventure and a bit of mystery, plus a love story. But soon as he leaped out of my imagination onto the page, Phaeton became his own man. Everything about writing Phaeton is easy for me, it’s as if he is an extension of me––a beloved brother.

He ‘s a friend as well. I miss him after I finish a book.

If you could meet any characters in your book, who would it be and why?

It would probably be some of my newer characters––ones I’m just beginning to write. Meeting them would help me get to know them better. When I begin writing a character, he or she is never fully realized, they come to life as I write them. With each chapter I discover a different side of them. Usually by the middle of the book I know them pretty well.

Mia: Elegant beauty, beguiling, precocious, good-hearted, delightful, bedevils Exeter

Prospero: Mysterious, tormented, misunderstood, scary-powerful, messiah complex

Mr. Ping/Jinn: Magical, transsexual shapeshifter, thoughtful, loyal ally

What is the most memorable moment (good, bad, or other) you have had in your life as an author?

There have been a number of them––good, bad and ugly. The latest is receiving this review from Publishers Weekly about The Miss Education of Dr. Exeter: “…an arousing erotic romance wearing a skimpy steampunk dress…tension-filled sex scenes in a variety of unusual locations will satisfy readers who like to dog-ear the pages.”

Not sure what to think about that, but I’m using it in promotion!

What’s the hardest scene for you to write? A good sex scene is difficult to write because it involves emotion, action, dialogue, it has to have a very precise arc of it’s own which involves building tension, use of all the senses and a climax––literally!

I also try to do this without using too much hyperbole (most sex scenes are crammed full of it).

What can readers expect from the upcoming sequels? There are many more stories planned which will involve the Nightshades, including Phaeton and America.

And there is a new, spin-off in the planning stages, the Moonstone Investigations series. Paranormal mysteries for America Jones and Phaeton Black to investigate on their own, with occasional help from their friends!

Who is your favorite kick ass heroine? I do not read much Urban Fantasy, nor do I really enjoy what is generally referred to as kick ass heroines. In fact, I have been criticized for not making America Jones into more of a kick ass heroine with special powers. I think America is one amazing, hot, brave woman, without a broomstick or a belt full of magic tools.

What authors have been an influence for you? And have you read any books lately that you want to share with us or have you been too busy with writing to read? I almost never read romance anymore, but I do read things that take me out of the paranormal/historical romance industry and into worlds that completely captivate me. I am currently reading Zealot, by Resa Aslan and loving it!

Are there any other projects you’re working on or thinking about starting in the near future? I am writing several contemporary erotic romance novels right now as well as gearing up for a fourth, full length Gentlemen of Scotland Yard novel to be released at the end of this year.

Pouvez-vous vous presenter en quelques mots ?

Je pense que je suis plus une raconteuse d’histoires qu’un écrivain. Une tisseuse de contes fantastiques qui incluent toujours une histoire d’amour. J’écris pour les adultes – des scènes d’amour souvent explicites et érotiques.

Mes deux premières séries, The Gentlemen of Scotland Yard et Phaeton Black, Paranormal Investigator sont toutes deux situées dans l’Angleterre Victorienne (1887-1890) et mettent en scène de diaboliquement charmants et fringants détectives et de belles et intelligentes femmes qui capturent leurs cœurs. Les détectives de Scotland Yard sont une version steampunk de James Bond, tandis que la série Phaeton Black possède plus de tournures paranormales et érotiques.

LOL! Vous voyez ce que je veux dire ? Et j’ai même arrêté d’essayer de vouloir expliquer Phaeton – voire même abandonné. Il est surement le personnage le plus unique que j’ai jamais écrit. Il est intrépide, audacieux, sombrement charmant, intuitif autant que très intelligent. Les femmes aiment Phaeton ou ne le connaissent pas – certaines sont même offensées par lui. Phaeton est un héro classique, byronien dans chaque sens du mot et il continuera à être aussi fort peu importe le nombre de livres écrits dans la série.

Que voulez-vous que vos lecteurs potentiels sachent à votre sujet ou ceux de vos livres ?

Ce que les lecteurs de la série Phaeton Black devraient savoir est que la nouvelle sortie est l’histoire d’amour de Mia et Exeter. Dans cette suite de The Moonstone and Miss Jones, un nombre de petits espions (qui volent) sont perdus dans Outremer, et ils localisent Phaeton à… Paris ! Il est retenu captif par Propero, un puissant techno-sorcier venant d’un univers parallèle. Exeter se prépare avec deux des Nightshades, et America, ainsi que Mia à chercher Phaeton à travers des kilometers de catacombs et tunnels tortueux sous Paris. Pendant ce temps, Mia a quelques difficultés à s’adapter à sa nouvelle double identité en tant que change-forme – une partie panthère, une partie humaine.

L’histoire de Exeter et Mia est remplie de tension sexuelle et il y a un côté plus sombre avec. Mia est devenue une belle jeune femme qui est très attirée par son gardien, Dr. Exeter. Elle l’aime depuis qu’elle est enfant, mais ses sentiments ont changé d’une façon des plus déroutantes. Alors que le livre commence, Mia essaie de maitriser son côté sauvage, autant que ses sentiments d’adulte pour Exeter. A certains moments, elle devient agressive sexuellement – est-ce la panthère ou Mia ? Ou même les deux ?

Et Exeter ne gère pas très bien ces changements très bien. Il est tiraillé entre ses devoirs de gardien et son désire de l’aider à gagner le contrôle sur la panthère et son attraction physique devenant de plus en plus importante.

Soyez prêts pour une histoire d’amour érotique, et une jolie aventure dans Miss Education of Dr. Exeter.

Phaeton and America, avec le reste des Gentlemen Shades retourneront dans le prochain roman , ce qui ramènera Prospero et Gaspar pour une intrigue hors du commun.

Alors Pheaton, d’où vient-il ?

Je ne suis pas sure exactement. J’ai tout d’abord pensé à lui en tant qu’un délicieux mélange de Jack Sparrow (Johnny Dep) et Robert Downy de Sherlock Holmes. Mais très vite il est sorti de mon imagination pour venir sur la page pour devenir son propre personnage. Tout ce qui est au sujet de l’écriture de Phaeton est facile pour moi, c’est comme s’il était une extension de moi – un frère adoré.

C’est aussi un ami. Il me manqué quand je finis un livre.

Si vous pouviez rencontrer un personage de vos livres, qui serait-ce et pourquoi ?

Ce serait surement un de mes nouveaux personnages – un que je viens juste d’écrire. Les rencontrer m’aiderait à les connaitre un peu mieux. Quand je commence à écrire un personnage, il ou elle n’est pas vraiment achevé, ils viennent à la vie en même temps que je les écris. Avec chaque chapitre, je découvrir un nouveau côté de leur personnalité. D’habitude, au milieu du livre, je les connais assez bien.

Quel est le moment le plus memorable (bon, mauvais ou autre) que vous avez eu au cours de votre vie d’auteur ?

Il y en a eu quelques uns––bon, mauvais et horrible. Le dernier a été de recevoir une critique de Publishers Weekly pour The Miss Education of Dr. Exeter: “… arousing erotic romance wearing a skimpy steampunk dress…tension-filled sex scenes in a variety of unusual locations will satisfy readers who like to dog-ear the pages.”

Je ne sais pas trop quoi en penser mais je l’utilise pour la promotion !

Quelle a été la scène la plus dure à écrire ?

Une bonne scène de sexe est difficile à écrire parce qu’elle inclue de l’émotion, de l’action, des dialogues, elle doit avoir un arc précis qui incluse une tension qui grandit, l’utilisation des sens et un orgasme – littéralement !

J’essaie aussi de faire ça sans trop d’hyperboles (la plupart des scènes de ce genre en sont remplies).

Que peut espérer le lecteur de la suite?

Il y a de nombreuses autres histoires prévues qui parlent des Nightshades, incluant Phaeton et America.

Et il y a un nouveau spin-off prévu, la série The Moonstone Investigations. Des mystères paranormaux Paranormal que America Jones et Phaeton Black devront enquêter par eux-mêmes, avec occasionnellement de l’aide de leurs amis !

Qui est votre héroïne dure à cuire préférée?

Je ne lis pas beaucoup d’urban fantasy, ni n’aime ce qui est référence en tant qu’héroïne coriace. En fait, j’ai été critiquée pour ne pas avoir fait d’American Jones une femme pareille avec des pouvoirs paranormaux. Je pense qu’America est exceptionnelle, sexy et courageuse sans ajouts ou outils magiques.

Quels sont les auteurs qui vous influencent ? Avez-vous lu un livre dernièrement que vous voudriez partager avec nous ou êtes-vous trop occupée à écrire pour lire ?

Je ne lis presque plus de romance maintenant, mais je lis quelques histoires qui me sortent du paranormal/historique pour des mondes qui me captivent. Je suis en train de lire Zealot, de Resa Aslan et j’adore ça!

Y-a-t-il d’autres projets sur lesquels vous travaillez ou que vous pensez commencer dans le future ?

Je suis en train d’écrire quelques romances contemporaines érotiques en même temps que le quatrième tome de Gentlemen of Scotland Yard qui doit sortir à la fin de l’année.

Review: This is the third volume of the Phaeton Black adventures and I must admit that with the end of the second novel, I was curious to see how our beloved hero would cope in this alternate universe. But I was surprised to see that this time we did not follow our beloved couple as from the beginning of the series but Dr Exeter and Mia.

It was strange to change of characters, but as we knew them from the beginning, it was also quite interesting to find out more about these two people. I must say that the professor is very attracted to Mia and vice versa, but he does not want to admit it and prefers to look the other way. However, their relationship will change when for controlling the panther she has in her, Mia must find a man who can help while forging a closer relationship. And who better than our dear professor? Of course, he is persuaded he will be able to keep it purely academic, of course, something that is not really possible. On top of that, Miss Jones is obviously still there, even though we don’t see her a lot, still pregnant and ready have her child soon, and yet still in search of her lover Phaeton. And when they find a record with his voice from the other world, our small team is determined to rescue our investigator. But all this is of course much more complicated than expected, especially given the number of people who’s after him. It is a journey that will take them to France, a country I always enjoy to read about. And despite some mistakes in some sentences in that language, it was nice to find some places and names that I knew.

I loved this quest to find our hero as I was curious to see where it would lead them and I can’t wait for the next novel. It will be in any case a lot of fun to find out what will happen. Regarding Mia and Dr. Exeter, I admit as I was warned by the many steamy scenes between the two main characters, I was therefore not really surprised but it is true that there are many more than in the last novel (or it is maybe just an idea). It, however, was pretty cute to see a relationship between these two characters who deeply appreciate each other. I’m still curious to see what will come out because it takes a lot of time to our good doctor to realize what exactly is happening. And I must say that they really are both very stubborn in their decisions.

It was an enjoyable read but it’s true that I missed Phaeton and Miss Jones and I can not wait to read about them again.

Même l’envoûtante Miss America Jones, qui est enceinte de l’enfant de Phaeton, n’a aucune idée sur son sort. Mais quand le microphone volant capte la voix de Phaeton dans les salons de Paris, elle enrôle son plus cher ami afin de le traquer, avant que ses pires ennemis ne le trouvent.

Accompagné par le fringant Dr Exeter, sa pupille la délicieuse Mia, et un duo de confiance de Nightshades, ils se dirigent vers la ville de Lumière avec une Miss Jones bien déterminée. Malheureusement, il y a quelque chose à propos de Paris à l’automne qui fait ressortir le diable dans Dr Exeter et la bête dans l’affable Mia, dont les pulsions animales la transforment en une magnifique panthère. En démêlant la réalité physique des deux côtés de la faille cosmique, le bon docteur doit extraire Phaeton Black des griffes du diabolique techno-sorcier ou les deux pourraient perdre les femmes qu’ils aiment… pour toujours.

Avis : Voici le troisième tome des aventures de Phaeton Black et j’avoue qu’avec la fin du deuxième roman j’étais curieuse de voir comment notre cher héros allait s’en sortir dans cet univers alternatif. Mais j’ai été surprise de voir que cette fois nous ne suivions pas notre cher couple comme depuis le début de la série mais plutôt Dr Exeter et Mia.

C’était assez étrange de changer de personnages mais étant donné que nous les connaissions depuis le début, c’était aussi assez intéressant de pouvoir en découvrir plus à leur sujet. Il faut dire que le professeur est très attiré par sa pupille et inversement mais il ne veut pas se l’avouer et préfère se voiler la face. Pourtant leur relation va changer quand pour contrôler la panthère qui est en elle, Mia doit trouver un homme qui puisse l’aider tout en forgeant une relation plus intime. Et qui de mieux que notre cher docteur ? Bien sûr, il est persuadé de pouvoir garder ça purement académique, chose qui bien entendu n’est pas vraiment possible. En plus de cela, Miss Jones est bien sûr toujours là, même si nous la voyons peu, toujours enceinte et prête à accoucher assez vite, et pourtant toujours en quête de son amant Phaeton. Et quand ils découvrent un enregistrement avec sa voix, provenant de l’autre monde, notre petite équipe embarque pour aller secourir notre investigateur. Mais tout cela sera bien sûr bien plus compliqué que prévu, notamment vu le nombre de personnes qui en a après lui. C’est un voyage qui les emmènera en France, pays que je prends toujours plaisir à lire. Et malgré quelques fautes dans certaines phrases dans cette langue, c’était agréable de retrouver les endroits et les noms que l’on connait.

J’ai beaucoup aimé cette quête pour retrouver notre héros et j’étais curieuse de voir si elle aboutirait ou s’il faudrait attendre le prochain roman pour voir la réunion de ce petit couple. J’ai eu en tout cas beaucoup de plaisir à le retrouver. Pour ce qui est de Mia et Dr. Exeter, j’avoue qu’ayant été prévenue du grand nombre de scènes torrides entre les deux personnages, je n’ai pas été vraiment surprise mais c’est vrai qu’il y en a beaucoup plus que dans le dernier roman (ou c’est peut-être juste une idée). C’était cependant assez mignon de voir une relation se lier entre eux ces deux personnages qui s’apprécient profondément. Je suis tout de même assez curieuse de voir ce qu’il en ressortira car il faut pas mal de temps à notre bon docteur pour réaliser ce qu’il se passe exactement. Et il faut dire qu’ils sont vraiment tous les deux très bornés dans leurs décisions.

C’était une lecture agréable mais c’est vrai Phaeton et Miss Jones me manquent et j’ai hâte de pouvoir les lire une fois de plus.

Review: After a first volume that I really enjoyed, I was curious to discover the second Jillian Stone’s novel. It is true that I was a little surprised by the erotic side of the first installment of the series but knowing the author’s style this time, I completely get into this new story that we have here. Maybe it’s just me but it is true that the scenes between the two heroes were easier to read and I didn’t have any problems.

After their little romance during their boat trip, Phaeton was forced to leave the America’s boat, and is kidnapped to be released in London without he understands the reason. He is therefore quite worried about the opinion of the young woman about it. You can imagine that this is really not to the taste of America who hesitated to know if he left because he was afraid of their relationship or if he really disappeared. But when she learns where he is, she does not hesitate to return at home and find her lover. However, narrowly escaping to a kidnapping by a very strange creature, our two heroes realize that Phaeton was brought here for a specific purpose, which goes much further than what we thought. They will have to mingle with some characters we knew from the first volume and to investigate to find the moonstone. Stone that might interest more people than we might think.

I was completely captivated by the ideas of the author. I was not expecting that at all and I thought it was a very well shot. This book is truly unique and I think I even preferred this one. The plot develops slowly over the course of the story, becoming more complex, making us think about the actions of each characters and making us discover all the subtleties of the world in which they live. And what more can I say? Phaeton and America are a delight to follow. They complete each other perfectly and it’s pretty hard to not love the scenes they have together. We can also observe that our hero has considerably evolved since the first novel. Of course, he kept his attitudes that make him the man he is, but you can perfectly see the love and the affection he has for America. I must say that I waited so eagerly for the big revelation of our heroine, it was really funny to see it.

However, the end is terrible, I didn’t expect that to happen so fast and now I wonder how the events will progress. I feel that it will really be epic. I look forward to further adventures of our two heroes. A very good novel steampunk!

Miss Jones, fille d’une sorcière cajun, est étonnamment belle et douée, et toujours prête pour l’aventure, surtout avec M. Black comme compagnon de voyage. Mais quand Phaeton est mystérieusement shangaïé à Shanghai, America pense qu’il l’a fui. Bloquée en Orient et – devenue folle – elle est prête à examiner chaque pierre pour retrouver le détective. L’affaire les a mis tous deux dans une position compromettante, mais cette fois, Miss Jones est dessus et M. Black est au sommet … d’un complot infernal.

Avis : Après un premier tome qui m’avait beaucoup plu, j’étais curieuse de pouvoir découvrir le deuxième tome de Jillian Stone. Alors c’est vrai que j’avais été un peu surprise par le côté érotique du premier volet de la série mais connaissant le style de l’auteur cette fois ci, j’ai complètement adhéré à la nouvelle histoire que l’on nous présente ici. Peut-être que ce n’est que moi mais c’est vrai que les scènes entre les deux héros sont passées vraiment plus facilement et ne m’ont posé aucun soucis.

Après leur petite idylle lors de leur voyage en bateau, Phaeton se voit contraint à quitter le bateau d’America, et se fait kidnapper pour être relâché à Londres sans qu’il ne comprenne la raison et assez inquiet de l’opinion de la jeune femme à son sujet. Vous vous doutez que ce n’est vraiment pas du goût d’America qui hésite à savoir s’il a eu peur de leur relation ou s’il a vraiment disparu. Mais quand elle apprend où il est, elle n’hésite pas à rentrer et retrouver son amant. Cependant, échappant de peu à un kidnapping par une créature des plus étranges, nos deux héros comprennent que ce Phaeton a été ramené pour un but précis, qui va beaucoup plus loin que ce que l’on pensait. Ils seront amenés à côtoyer les personnages du premier tome et à partir dans une enquête pour retrouver la pierre de lune. Pierre qui pourrait bien intéresser bien plus de personnes que l’on pourrait le croire.

J’ai été complètement subjuguée par les idées de l’auteure. Je ne m’attendais pas du tout à ça et j’ai trouvé que c’était très bien tourné. Ce livre est vraiment unique et je pense même l’avoir préféré au premier. L’intrigue se développe petit à petit au fil de l’histoire, se complexant, nous faisant réfléchir sur les actes de chacun et nous faisant découvrir toutes les subtilités du monde dans lequel ils vivent. Et que dire ? Phaeton et America sont un régal à suivre. Ils se complètent tous les deux et c’est assez difficile de ne pas aimer les scènes qu’ils ont ensemble. On peut d’ailleurs observer que notre héros a beaucoup évolué depuis le premier roman. Bien sûr, il a gardé ses attitudes qui font de lui l’homme qu’il est mais on voit parfaitement l’amour et l’attachement qu’il a pour America. Il faut dire que j’attendais aussi avec impatience la révélation de notre héroïne, c’était vraiment très drôle à assister.

La fin est cependant terrible, je ne pensais pas que ce moment arriverait si vite et je me demande comment les événements vont évoluer à présent. Je sens que ça va vraiment être épique. Je vais attendre avec impatience la suite des aventures de nos deux héros. Un très bon roman steampunk !

Can you introduce yourself in a few words?

My name is Jillian Stone and I write a historical paranormal series set in 1889 darkest London. THE SEDUCTION OF PHAETON BLACK and the recently released THE MOONSTON AND MISS JONES are the first two novels in the Phaeton Black, Paranormal Investigator series. Phaeton is an occult detective who lives in the basement of a brothel. The series incorporates erotica and Steampunk elements.

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

Both as a child and aduIt, I have always enjoyed a very rich fantasy life, and I love storytelling of all kinds, books, film, TV. But I didn’t really think of myself as a writer until one of my manuscripts won the Romance Writer’s of America’s Golden Heart Award. Suddenly I was plunged into the New York publishing world, agents, contracts. All of it very exciting and terrifying!

How many books do you intend to write for this series?

The publisher contracted for three books, but there may be more. I am writing the last book in the series now: THE MISS EDUCATION OF DOCTOR EXETER.

Was it difficult to write the first book? How long did it take?

About eight months. OMG! I would love to have that luxury again. I am writing books on a much tighter schedule now. THE SEDUCTION OF PHAETON BLACK was a joy to write.

How do you find your titles? Did you imagine them all when you started the series or do you brainstorm each time?

All my titles are long, aren’t they? I have always loved titles with the character’s name in the title: David Copperfield, Anna Karenina, Tess of the d’Urbervilles, Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Anne of Green Gables, Jane Eyre, Dracula, Frankenstein…

How did you end up writing paranormal romance books? Is there any other genre that appeal to you?

I decided to write this series based on an idea I had for an occult detective who lived in the basement of a brothel. It incorporates both paranormal and Steampunk elements.

I write another series for Pocket Books called The Gentlemen of Scotland Yard. It is historical romantic suspense, set in late Victorian London and the heroes all work for a special branch of Scotland Yard. I enjoy writing it immensely.

Your world is pretty unique with so many Steampunk references, is it difficult to insert them in the story?

I concentrate on the quality of plot and love story first, then the characters. Only then do I sprinkle in the fantasy elements. Whenever possible, I enjoy breathing life into a mechanical apparatus or strange creature.

What influences what you write?

I am inspired by wonderful storytelling of any kind. Books, film, music, theater.

Do you write full time? If no, do you hope to eventually do so?

I write pretty much full time at great sacrifice to my income and family! I still work as a freelance art director on special projects.

Does the inspiration for the characters come from people you know?

I think there are aspects of people I know in every character I write. I sometimes use actors to help visualize a character’s mannerisms and expressions. I can’t write dialogue for a character until I can hear his or her voice in my head.

Is there a character more difficult than the others to write?

If I am having difficulty writing a character it is usually because I don’t know them well enough, That usually disappears the further I get into the story. When a scene isn’t working between characters it usually comes down to emotional honesty.

Does your cover represent what is between the pages?

I worry that the cover of THE SEDUCTION OF PHAETON BLACK doesn’t communicate the sensuality of the book. The erotic scenes may have taken a few people by surprise.

Who is your favorite character in the series?

Phaeton is wonderful to write because he is honest, irreverent and lusty and if people read carefully, they will come to understand how caring he is.

Have you already other plans for future series? Or is it top secret?

The Nightshades may get their own series. We shall see.

Did you need to do a lot of research for your books?

Since the books are set in 1889 darkest London there is quite a bit of research to do, which I enjoy doing. Research helps me enhance both the natural and supernatural aspects of the story. If the creatures can exist organically in the environment, then they can also ooze off the pages…so to speak. J

Do you have a favorite author? Or a favorite book?

I have many favorite authors and books. Today, my favorite book and author is: A Room with a View, by E. M. Forster.

Where is your favorite place to write?

I have two giant bean bags I pile on my bed and curl up there with my lap top. Does that sound weird? It’s really comfortable!

Have you ever been in France?

I have. Ten days in Paris and surroundings. My sister and I took a winter break trip. We arrived in Paris the night before New Year’s Eve, and were so jet lagged we slept through New Year’s celebrations!

I’d love to spend months and months in France. I have a long list of places I want to visit in the Languedoc-Roussillon region. I have an epic fantasy series set there. I have written over eight hundred pages of the story but it’s shelved for the moment.

Comment en êtes-vous venue à écrire de la romance paranormale? Y-a-t-il un autre genre qui vous plaise ?

J’ai décidé d’écrire cette série sur la base d’une idée que j’avais eue concernant un détective occulte qui vivait dans le sous-sol d’une maison close. J’ai incorporé des éléments paranormaux et historiques ensuite.

J’écris une autre série pour Pocket Books appelée The Gentleman of Scotland Yard. C’est une romance historique à suspense, se déroulant dans un Londres Victorien et les héros travaillent pour une branche spéciale de Scotland Yard. J’adore l’écrire.

Votre monde est assez unique avec tant de références Steampunk, était-ce difficile de les insérer dans l’histoire ?

Je me concentre sur la qualité de l’intrigue et l’histoire d’amour en premier, puis les personnages. Seulement après j’ajoute les éléments de fantasy. Quand c’est possible, j’aime donner vie à un dispositif mécanique ou une créature étrange.

J’écris pratiquement à temps complet en sacrifiant souvent mon bien-être et ma famille ! Je travaille toujours en tant que directrice d’art freelance sur des projets spéciaux.

Vos personnages sont-ils inspirés de personnes que vous connaissez ?

Je pense qu’il y a des aspects de personnes que je connais dans mes personnages. J’utilise parfois des acteurs pour visualiser les expressions et les manières des personnages. Je ne peux pas écrire de dialogue pour un personnage si je n’entends pas sa voix dans ma tête.

Y-a-t-il un personnage plus difficile à écrire que les autres ?

Si j’ai des difficultés à écrire un personnage, c’est souvent parce que je ne les connais pas assez. Cela disparaît normalement quand j’avance dans l’histoire. Quand une scène ne marche pas entre les personnages cela se résume généralement à l’honnêteté émotionnelle.

La couverture représente-t-elle ce qui est entre les pages ?

J’ai peur que la couverture de THE SEDUCTION OF PHAETON BLACK ne communique pas la sensualité du livre. Les scènes érotiques ont pris quelques personnes par surprise.

Quel est votre personnage préféré dans la série ?

Phaeton est sublime à écrire comme il est honnête, irrévérencieux et vigoureux et si les gens lisent avec soin, ils en viendront à comprendrequ’il est bienveillant.

Avez-vous déjà d’autres projets pour une future série ? Ou est-ce top secret ?

The Nightshades pourraient avoir leur propre série. Nous verrons.

Pouvez- vous nous dire un petit quelque chose au sujet du premier livre ? Et du deuxième ?

Si les créatures peuvent exister organiquement dans cet environnement, alors ils peuvent aussi suinter hors des pages… façon de parler J

Avez-vous un auteur favori ? Ou un livre ?

J’ai énormément d’auteurs et de livres favoris. Aujourd’hui mon livre et auteur préféré est : Avec vue sur l’Arno de E. M. Forster.

Quel est votre endroit préféré pour écrire ?

J’ai deux sacs de haricots géants que j’empile sur mon lit puis je me détends avec mon ordinateur portable. Est-ce que ça sonne bizarre ? C’est vraiment confortable !

Etes-vous déjà venu en France ?

Oui. Dix jours à Paris et ses alentours. Ma sœur et moi avions pris quelques vacances d’hiver. Nous sommes arrivées à Paris la nuit précédant le nouvel an, et nous avons été tellement fatiguées par le décalage horaire que nous avons dormi durant toutes les célébrations de la nouvelle année.

J’adorerais passer des mois et des mois en France. J’ai une longue liste d’endroits que je veux visiter dans la région du Languedoc Roussillon. J’ai une fantasy épique qui se déroule là. J’ai écrit plus de huit cent pages mais c’est mis en attente pour le moment.

Jillian Stone was born a storyteller. A skill that got her into considerable trouble as a youth until she solved the problem by becoming an advertising creative. And the career did seem to suit her as she won many national ad awards including the Clio and the New York Art Director’s Club Gold. What more could she ask for? Create her own worlds? Become goddess of her own universe? Yes! So, she began to write fiction. Her Victorian Romantic Suspense novel AN AFFAIR WITH MR. KENNEDY won the 2010 Golden Heart and sold to Pocket Books.
