Review: I had read some novels in the paranormal romance series by MJ Scott, but when she has announced the release of a brand new series, with a different note, I admit that I was intrigued. A kind of historical mix, added to that some intrigues of the court, witches and power, a mix that we can only appreciate.

Lady Sophia is an innocent girl, frightened because about her future. She is a heir to the throne even if a far one, and she is waiting to see if her witch gifts will manifest or not … But if her powers appear, she will have to marry the man chosen to be her husband and it is not a future that many are waiting for with pleasure. Yet on the day of her birthday, everything will change … Oh yes, because while the palace was attacked by an enemy nation, our heroine is far from the place with a bodyguard of the day: Cameron. But it is also during that day that she discovers her powers and that she realizes that she is and will remain a royal witch. Unfortunately, the events taking place early in the book prevent her to being bound and soon many people will be interested in her. Her power grows and some wonder if she is not a threat to the throne, a pawn who could be not as malleable and suggestible.

I enjoyed discovering Lady Sophia. This is a young woman who evolves throughout the story, a fair person who will quickly understand that people sometimes have deceptive appearances, they soon forget friendship when power and desire come into play. It is rather sad to see how people behave when they feel threatened by someone while there were no problems at the start. Fortunately for her, her bodyguard and finally a little more than that will be there for her, to support her and help her. I loved this young man too. He is true, tries to understand what is happening and acts as best as he can in all situations. Their story is not really easy under the circumstances but I think they both form a beautiful duo. Through them, we discover the world of the author, myths she chose to explore and I confess that I found it all fascinating. She had lots of ideas here, and we remain captivated by this new world.

It was a good first volume, which perfectly lays the foundation of the history and I’m very curious now to read and learn more.

Avis : J’avais lu quelques romans de la série de romance paranormale de M.J. Scott, mais quand elle a annoncé la sortie d’une toute nouvelle histoire, avec un registre différent, j’avoue que j’ai été intriguée. Une sorte de mélange historique, ajouté à cela des intrigues de la cour, sorcières et pouvoir, un mix qu’on ne peut qu’apprécier.

Lady Sophia est une jeune fille innocente et effrayée à cause de son avenir. Elle est en lice pour devenir héritière, et attend de voir si ses dons de sorcière vont se manifester ou pas… Mais si ses pouvoirs apparaissent, elle devra se marier avec l’homme qui lui sera choisi et ce n’est pas un futur que beaucoup attendent avec plaisir. Pourtant le jour de son anniversaire, tout va changer… Oh oui, car au moment où le palais se fait attaquer par une nation ennemie, notre héroïne se trouve loin de l’endroit avec un garde son garde du corps du jour : Cameron. Mais c’est aussi ce jour-là qu’elle découvre ses pouvoirs et qu’elle réalise qu’elle est et restera une sorcière royale. Hélas, les événements qui se déroulent au début du livre empêchent son pouvoir d’être lié et bientôt de nombreuses personnes vont s’intéresser à elle. Son pouvoir grandit et certains se demandent si elle se trouve pas être une menace pour le trône, un pion qui n’est plus aussi malléable ou influençable.

J’ai bien aimé découvrir Lady Sophia. C’est une jeune femme qui évolue tout au long de l’histoire, une personne loyale qui va très vite comprendre que les gens présentent parfois des apparences trompeuses, qu’ils oublient vite l’amitié quand le pouvoir et le désir entrent en jeux. C’est d’ailleurs assez triste de voir comment les gens se comportent quand ils se sentent menacés par quelqu’un alors qu’il n’y avait aucun problème au départ. Heureusement pour elle, son garde du corps et finalement un peu plus sera là pour elle, pour la soutenir et l’aider. J’ai beaucoup apprécié ce jeune homme aussi. Il est vrai, essaie de comprendre ce qu’il se passe et d’agir au mieux dans toutes les situations. Leur histoire n’est pas vraiment facile vu les circonstances mais je pense qu’ils forment tous les deux un très joli duo. A travers eux, on découvrir le monde de l’auteure, les mythes qu’elle a choisi d’explorer et j’avoue que j’ai trouvé le tout fascinant. Elle a eu beaucoup d’idées ici, et on reste captivé par ce nouvel univers.

C’était un bon premier tome, qui pose parfaitement les bases de l’histoire et je suis très curieuse à présent de lire la suite et d’en apprendre plus.

Je n’aurais jamais pensé que vivre en centre-ville serait aussi galère. C’est encore la faute de Satan, cette garce ! Elle m’a promis que je découvrirais les mystères du Livre des Morts sans devenir folle. Sauf qu’il y a une condition… Ma demi- soeur, Laura, et moi devons d’abord nous rendre en enfer afin de lui rendre visite et de faire par la même occasion un petit voyage dans le temps. Ça pourrait être sympa si nous ne risquions pas de chambouler le cours de l’histoire.

My father abandoned me but at least I inherited some of his magic, and my skills with charms and glamours mean that few are as good at uncovering secrets others wish to hide. Right now the city has many secrets. And those who seek them pay so well…

I never expected to stumble across a Templar Knight in my part of the city. Guy DuCaine is sworn to duty and honor and loyalty — all the things I’m not. I may have aroused more than his suspicion but he belongs to the Order and the human world. So when treachery and violence spill threaten both our kind, learning to trust each other might be the only thing that saves us.

But even if a spy and a holy knight can work together, finding the key to peace is never going to be easy…

review: I was pretty curious to start this book, but I confess that I was anxious to follow another character all along the book. I really enjoyed Lily and I was a little sad to not have her point of view this time. But finally, what a surprise, following Guy and Holly was a real pleasure as well. These two new protagonists are finally really different from the couple we saw in the first volume. Plus, as the other one, this book follows each time the point of view of our two characters and it allows us to really understand them from the start and to know what they want.
The book begins where we were left in the last novel, so it was interesting to see the consequences of the events. But the Lucius disappearance has turned upside down all the community and everyone wants, now, to be the leader. The tensions become quite complicated to deal with for the Knights and it’s now difficult to avoid troubles. Guy decides to take matters into his own hands and to discover what is really going on. He will team up with a half-fae young woman, Holly, who from the start plays a double game in this adventure. She was ensorcelled by her father who wants to discover the secret of Simon, the brother of our knight. However, her initial goal will be quickly challenged when she starts to feel something for our hero.
Well I’m sure you know that our two protagonists will end up together. But it was really interesting to discover more things about Faes we didn’t know about. It’s true we don’t learn a lot either, but it made me even more curious about this whole universe. We assist all along the book to the inner turmoil of Holly, our young spy, about her feelings and her duty. But when it’s about her family, she doesn’t have any choices. It was touching to see them together, because Guy is quite a character! We will find one more time a story mixing conspiracies, threats and love. A nice mix to keep us curious all along the book.
I was a little surprised at first with book 1 as the romance was very important in the story and I expected to have a real UF book. This time, it was easier to get into the M.J. Scott novel, as I knew what I could expect.
The writing style is really fluid and It’s always intriguing to discover what our characters will do or to know how they would react when they would know the truth. Because, of course, the truth is always exposed one day.
I wonder who will be featured in the third book. I really enjoyed this little introduction of the Guy’s sister and I hope we will learn more about her in the next novel. Indeed, Saskia has a very interesting nature. To conclude, it was a pleasure to read this new novel and I’m glad I persevered in the series.

Je n’avais pas prévu de devenir une voleuse et une espionne. Mais les options sont limitées for une fille métisse d’un Lord Fae. Mon père m’a abandonnée, mais j’ai au moins hérité d’une partie de sa magie, et mes dons de charme et glamour signifient que certains sont aussi bons pour découvrir les secrets que l’on souhaite cacher. Aujourd’hui la ville possède de nombreux secrets. Et ceux qui les cherchent en paient souvent le prix…

Je ne pensais pas tomber sur un chevalier des Templiers dans ma partie de la ville. Guy DuCaine a juré loyauté et honneur à son devoir – à l’inverse de moi. J’ai peut-être aiguisé sa curiosité mais il appartient à l’Ordre et au monde humain. Lorsque que complots et violences nous menacent, apprendre à nous faire confiance pourrait bien être la seule chose susceptible de nous sauver.

Mais même si une espionne et un chevalier sacré peuvent travailler ensemble, trouver la clef de la paix ne sera pas simple.
Avis:J’étais assez curieuse de commencer ce livre mais je dois dire que le changement de personnage m’avait un peu freinée au départ. J’avais beaucoup apprécié le personnage de Lily et j’étais un peu triste de ne pas avoir de nouveau son point de vue. Mais finalement, quelle surprise, suivre Guy et Holly a été un grand plaisir aussi. Ces deux nouveaux personnages sont finalement vraiment différents du couple que nous avions rencontré dans le premier. C’était donc agréable de découvrir un nouveau personnage et d’apprendre à connaître Guy que nous avions pu rencontrer dans le premier tome. De plus comme pour le premier, le livre suit à chaque fois, à tour de rôle, les points de vue de nos deux protagonistes, ce qui nous permet de mieux les cerner dès le début et de comprendre leurs motivations.
On commence le livre peu de temps après les événements qui sont survenus dans le roman précédent. Mais la disparition de Lucius a bouleversé toute la communauté qui maintenant essaie de prendre cette place de leader vacante. Les tensions deviennent donc assez compliquées à gérer pour les chevaliers qui ont de plus en plus de mal à revenir en un seul morceau. Guy décide donc de prendre les choses en main et de découvrir ce qu’il se passe vraiment. Il fera équipe avec une jeune femme à moitié Fae, Holly, qui dès le départ joue un double jeu dans cette aventure. Elle a été ensorcelée par son père afin de découvrir le secret de Simon, le frère de notre chevalier. Cependant, son but initial sera très vite remis en question quand elle commence à éprouver des sentiments pour notre héros.
Bon vous vous doutez bien sûr, que oui, ils finiront à un moment ou un autre ensemble. Mais c’était vraiment très intéressant d’en découvrir dans ce tome plus sur les Faes qui ont été finalement peu abordés. C’est vrai qu’on n’en apprend pas énormément non plus, mais cela aiguise notre curiosité. On assiste tout au long du livre au déchirement intérieur que subit Holly, notre jeune espionne, quant à son devoir et ses sentiments. Mais quand sa famille est en jeu, il lui reste peu de choix. C’était attendrissant de les voir essayer d’apprendre à se connaitre, car il est vrai que Guy est un sacré personnage. On se retrouvera encore une fois dans ce tome dans des histoires mêlant complots, trahisons et amour. Un joli mélange qui nous garde en haleine tout au long du roman.
J’avais été un peu surprise au début du premier avec la romance qui avait un gros impact sur l’histoire et je m’étais attendue à avoir une vraie fantaisie urbaine. Cette fois ci, c’était beaucoup plus facile de me plonger des les écrits de M.J. Scott, étant donné que je savais à quoi m’attendre réellement.
Le style d’écriture est vraiment fluide et c’était toujours très intrigant de découvrir quels seraient les prochains actes de nos personnages ou de savoir comment l’un et l’autre allaient réagir quand ils découvriraient la vérité. Parce que bien sûr la vérité est toujours exposée à un moment ou un autre.
Je me demande quels héros seront mis en scène dans le prochain roman. J’ai beaucoup apprécié l’introduction que nous avons eue de la sœur de Guy et j’espère que nous en apprendrons plus sur elle dans le prochain.  En effet, Saskia a l’air d’avoir un caractère bien à elle. Pour conclure, J’ai pris beaucoup de plaisir à lire ce nouveau tome, et je suis contente d’avoir persévéré dans la série.

J’ai vu tellement de choses effrayantes depuis que j’ai commence l’Académie Mythos depuis l’automne dernier. Je sais que je suis sensée entre une guerrière sans peur, mais la plupart du temps, j’ai l’impression d’attendre la prochaine, mauvaise, mauvaise chose qui va arriver. Comme quelqu’un essayant de me tuer – encore une fois.
Tout le monde à l’Academie Mythos me connait en tant que Gwen Frost, la fille Gypsy qui utilise sa magie psychométrique afin de trouver les objets perdus – et qui pourrait sortir avec Logan Quinn, le garçon le plus beau de l’école. Mais je suis aussi la fille que les Faucheurs du Chaos veulent voir morte de la pire des façons. Les faucheurs sont les plus mauvais du mal, les gens qui ont tué ma mère. And even if I thought I could trust Simon, stepping from the shadows into the light isn’t as simple as it sounds…

Review : I was so sure after reading the synopsis and seeing the cover that this book was a typical Urban Fantasy Novel. But finally I was wrong, it wasn’t the case. I couldn’t compare it either to a real paranormal romance, but I think it was a book on the border of the two kinds.

We discover in this novel a new world. Indeed, this one is shared in two very distinct categories which are each very intriguing. The first one brings together the Blood Lords, i.e the vampires and the Beast Kind. They live on the fringe of society. The other one brings together the Mages, the Templar : some strong warriors, Humans and the Faes who want to defend humanity. In this world we could meet a different person : Lily, a wraith. She is the slave of Lucius, one of the oldest vampire in the city who mistreats her like the others. As she is the personal assassin of this man, she is the only one who can hide in darkness. Therefore she is a significant advantage. But everything will change when she meets Simon, who just only wants one thing : save her and destroy Lucius with her testimony.

From the beginning, we learn the Simon’s feelings for Lily, because, of course he wants her in his bed. She is more suspicious about all this and he will have to wait some times before she could make a choice. And well, our terrible assassin is a virgin ! I think their feelings were quite too fast and finally the relationship between the two characters is a very important point in this story. Which was a shame because even if we’re very touched by the new feelings of Lily, the relationship is a too big part of the story. Finally, the novel is led by the Simon’s feelings for our heroine.

Lily is a character we like quite fast. Despite she seems cold and is depreciated by everyone, she has some vivid emotions and would like to impose her own opinions. I was sometimes wondering if she gives them ammunition. She is always in some difficult situations where she couldn’t escape. However, we very sad for her, for her life because she has to live alone.

We can learn very well the feelings of our two characters, whether it was for Simon or Lily, because the book is shared between their two points of view. Therefore, we can understand their suspicious and their desire. I think I prefer the point of view of Lily, Action was more present with her while the logic is more for Simon.
It’s a cute story and I surely will read the second book with curiosity, but it’s right that it wasn’t a mind-blowing read. Maybe I’ve expected a little too much for it.
